Law enforcement agencies in the Samarkand region have successfully intercepted an attempt to distribute a substantial amount of counterfeit US currency allegedly smuggled from Turkey. The State Security Service released official details regarding the operation.
According to reports, operatives from the State Security Service, interior ministry, and customs service conducted a joint raid in the Taylak district, apprehending three local residents aged 30, 24, and 23. The suspects were caught red-handed while handing over a total of $7,400 in counterfeit 100-dollar bills to a covert buyer in exchange for 44 million soums.
Investigators noted that the individuals attempted to offload the fake banknotes at roughly half of their nominal value, amounting to less than $3,700 in real terms. Furthermore, background checks revealed that two of the detained suspects had previous criminal records.
Authorities are currently conducting a comprehensive investigation into the incident. Efforts are underway to trace the origins of the counterfeit currency and identify any other potential accomplices linked to the smuggling network.
