A high-profile altercation in the capital has resulted in a swift legal penalty and municipal action. An employee of the Brasserie Park restaurant in Tashkent has been sentenced to five days of administrative detention for verbally abusing and threatening a courier who attempted to navigate a pedestrian walkway. The incident has drawn public scrutiny regarding the illegal encroachment of public spaces by commercial establishments.
The confrontation, which occurred on October 17, stemmed from the restaurant's unlawful appropriation of a public pedestrian pathway for its outdoor seating area. The courier, Munir Yakubov, was subjected to aggressive profanity by restaurant staff for using the route. According to Yakubov, bystanders failed to intervene or defend him, instead criticizing him for recording the incident on his smartphone.
Following the public outcry, the Tashkent city administration launched an official investigation into the matter. The inspection revealed blatant violations of urban land use regulations and the obstruction of pedestrian traffic. Consequently, municipal authorities dismantled the restaurant's unauthorized outdoor terrace, restoring the walkway to compliance with local regulations and ensuring unobstructed access for the public.
