Uzbekistan is set to widely celebrate the 1050th birth anniversary of the great polymath and physician Abu Ali ibn Sino (Avicenna) in 2030. In this regard, the government has officially approved a comprehensive “roadmap” aimed at thoroughly studying and widely promoting his extensive scientific legacy, according to announcements from the Ministry of Justice.
Under the newly adopted document, authorities have approved the initiative to establish the Abu Ali ibn Sino Research Center under the Bukhara State Medical Institute. The center will be tasked with conducting advanced research into Ibn Sino’s medical practices and applying these historical findings to modern healthcare systems.
Additional responsibilities of the newly formed institution include collecting ancient manuscripts, translating them into the Uzbek language, and developing a dedicated digital platform. Furthermore, specialized training courses and master classes will be organized for medical professionals and scholars interested in the history of medicine.
Plans are also underway to host a major international scientific conference in Tashkent in October 2026, themed “Ibn Sino — A Great Representative of Western and Eastern Philosophical Thought.” The agenda further includes the establishment of an international award in his name, the translation of his major philosophical and medical treatises, and the organization of international research expeditions to collect rare manuscripts held abroad.
