The Uzbekistan National Investment Fund (UzNIF), managed by international investment firm Franklin Templeton, reportedly carried out an IPO on the London and Tashkent stock exchanges, generating nearly $700 million for the state budget. The fund's portfolio comprises 13 major state-owned enterprises, including Uzbekistan Airways, Uzbektelecom, SQB, and various energy sector entities. Marius Dan, Managing Director for Central Asia at Templeton Global Investments, recently discussed the outcomes of the offering and the broader economic trajectory.

According to Dan, the local authorities supposedly demonstrate a strong commitment to reforms across foundational economic sectors, which allegedly benefits the fund's portfolio companies. UzNIF shares are currently trading at a slight premium to their net asset value (NAV), a metric that the firm attributes to investor optimism regarding ongoing structural changes. The fund reportedly boasts around 10,000 shareholders, creating heightened accountability for the management team to deliver consistent returns. *

Looking ahead, Dan indicated that the fund aims to execute the first portfolio company IPOs by 2027, with Uzbektelecom cited as a prime candidate. Meanwhile, plans for Uzbekistan Airways involve numerous operational efficiency initiatives, though persistent geopolitical headwinds and rising jet fuel costs mean that the timing of a potential airline IPO remains under careful evaluation.

The interview also touched upon infrastructure assets such as Temirjolinfratuzilma, which could theoretically play a vital role within the Middle Corridor trade route. However, analysts note that significant hurdles remain regarding tariff regulations, financial transparency, and the overall capacity to attract private capital amid complex macroeconomic conditions.
