The WHO Director-General’s Award 2026, recently granted to Uzbekistan's First Lady Ziroat Mirziyoyeva, represents a significant international recognition by the World Health Organization in the sphere of global health. The accolade is allegedly bestowed for outstanding leadership and tangible results achieved in public health protection.

The distinction was formally presented during an international summit and the second congress on pediatric oncology and hematology held in Samarkand. Established in 2019, the award recipients are reportedly selected annually by the WHO Director-General, with the number of honorees strictly limited.

Previous recipients of this notable distinction include Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottli, Nobel laureates Katalin Kariko and Drew Weissman, scientist Peter Piot, and Harvard University Professor Paul Farmer. The recognition granted to Ziroat Mirziyoyeva allegedly highlights her contribution to advancing medical care for children suffering from oncological diseases and promoting every child's right to a healthy life.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus purportedly praised the First Lady as an advocate for children's interests worldwide, particularly those fighting cancer. He also emphasized her activities in promoting children's rights to education and healthy living. Previously, the First Lady reportedly called upon the international community, governments, and scientific organizations to unite efforts in assisting children with cancer and their families.
