Large-scale construction works have officially commenced to establish a modern recreation zone on a 90-sotix vacant plot located in the Qurgontepa mahalla of Tashkent's Uchtepa district. According to statements from the capital's administration, the initiative aims to enhance the urban environment and develop public open spaces for local residents.
The newly planned water reservoir will be situated between preschool educational institutions No. 340 and No. 346, covering an area of 0.37 hectares with a depth of 2 meters. Project developers explain that the lake will be sustained through natural water inflows originating from drainage wells and ditches. Authorities have explicitly emphasized that swimming in the newly formed reservoir will be strictly prohibited for safety reasons.
Environmental preservation remains a key component of the project, as all 66 existing ornamental trees of various species growing adjacent to the site will be fully protected and retained. Furthermore, additional tree planting initiatives are planned to further green the area. The surroundings of the water basin will feature walking paths and benches designed for public leisure.
The capital's administration expects the project to be fully completed by the end of 2026. This urban development effort follows previous reports regarding the construction of a 1.7-hectare artificial lake in the Qumariq mahalla near the Tashkent International Airport, forming part of a broader municipal program to establish 12 water bodies across all districts of the capital.
