Uzbekistan has commissioned 330 new pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities valued at an aggregate of $1 billion in recent years, with an additional pipeline of projects worth $1.2 billion currently underway. The sweeping industrial expansion aims to raise the share of locally produced medicines on the domestic market to 70%, significantly reducing dependence on imports.
The figures were unveiled by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during a formal meeting with representatives of the nation's healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors. To support sustained growth, authorities have established the specialized "Tashkent Biopharm City" cluster alongside pharmaceutical free economic zones located across the Andijan, Namangan, Jizzakh, and Tashkent regions.
The discussions also focused on the integration of artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure into daily medical practice. President Mirziyoyev emphasized that AI-driven tools are slated to assist physicians and nursing staff in diagnostic accuracy and treatment planning. The digital transformation strategy is designed to encompass both public health institutions and private enterprises, including commercial clinics and retail pharmacy networks.
Marking the national professional holiday of healthcare workers, the president formally signed a decree conferring state awards and honors upon distinguished medical practitioners and pharmaceutical scientists for their contributions to public health and welfare.
