The historic city of Bukhara has been designated to host the 19th annual conference of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in 2027, according to official announcements from the organization's press service. This development follows a proposal previously put forward by the Uzbek leadership during high-profile events in Samarkand.
Situated along the ancient Silk Road, Bukhara allegedly stands as a prominent cultural and architectural hub in Central Asia, renowned for its centuries-old craftsmanship traditions. The international recognition is anticipated by proponents to stimulate tourism and local economic development, though sustainable management remains a stated priority for the organizers.
Notably, Bukhara will mark a historical milestone as the very first city in Central Asia, the CIS region, and the Organization of Turkic States to ever host the annual gathering of this global network. The upcoming forum is projected to focus heavily on creative industries, heritage preservation, and the contribution of culture to sustainable development goals.
