The proposal to introduce dedicated carriages for female passengers on the Tashkent Metro system remains stalled due to existing infrastructure constraints and heavy daily commuter flows. Yuldysh Yusupov, the deputy chairman of Tashkent Metro JSC, stated that current technical capabilities and passenger volume make the immediate implementation of such a system unfeasible.
Officials noted that requests and suggestions regarding gender-segregated carriages are frequently received through social media platforms and direct public appeals. However, with women accounting for approximately 40 percent of the daily ridership, the current rolling stock and station capacities cannot accommodate segregated boarding without causing severe logistical bottlenecks.
At the same time, the administration acknowledged that designated carriages could potentially help reduce instances of harassment, pointing to international practices in developed nations. Management claims that the feasibility of introducing this security measure will be reassessed when new metro lines are constructed and additional train carriages are procured in the future.
