Authorities in Uzbekistan are reportedly planning to overhaul the calculation system for the temporary registration of foreign nationals and stateless persons. Members of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis have purportedly adopted a relevant draft law in its first reading, signaling potential shifts in domestic administrative procedures.
According to statements from the lower house of parliament, the proposed amendments are allegedly aimed at eliminating legal ambiguities and discrepancies in determining registration periods. Officials claim that transitioning from monthly calculations to specific calendar days will allegedly provide greater precision and prevent misinterpretation of the legislation. *
Representatives insist that the measure concerns solely the calculation mechanism rather than an automatic reduction of the permitted stay duration for foreigners in the country. The current procedure is governed by a law that officially entered into force on October 12, 2025.
In addition, the draft legislation allegedly introduces structural adjustments to the migration divisions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The terminology concerning migration and citizenship processing is purportedly set to be updated to match the current administrative framework and institutional structure.
Lawmakers argue that these modifications will supposedly enhance public service efficiency in the migration sector and strengthen oversight against unauthorized labor activities by foreign visitors. The legislative initiative has only passed its initial reading and requires further parliamentary procedures before taking full effect.
