President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has reportedly instructed officials to expedite the construction of a new international airport and associated transit networks in the Bukhara region, setting a strict operational deadline ahead of Independence Day in September 2027. State press services revealed that the large-scale regional development initiative aims to overhaul local transportation frameworks.

The capital-intensive airport project, valued at approximately 300 million dollars, is projected to accommodate up to 20 aircraft simultaneously while handling a capacity of 1,200 passengers. To streamline connectivity, authorities plan to construct a 24-kilometer modern highway linking the aviation hub directly to the city center, alongside a dedicated 5.5-kilometer Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane designed to alleviate urban congestion. * * * * * * * * * * *

Officials claim the upcoming infrastructure will supposedly enhance passenger convenience and substantially expand the territory's transit capabilities. Furthermore, discussions focused on broadening the geography of direct international flights to Bukhara. Turkish carrier Pegasus is purportedly launching direct connections, while relevant ministries have been tasked with establishing scheduled and charter flights involving Malaysia, Indonesia, Kuwait, Egypt, and Bahrain by next year.

The new aviation complex is being developed in the Qumsulton array of the Bukhara district under a public-private partnership (PPP) framework led by Uzbekistan Airports, in coordination with national economic and transport ministries. While airfield infrastructure will remain under state management, the private partner will allegedly take charge of constructing and operating the passenger terminal and commercial facilities following international tenders.
