Uzbekistan, Tashkent – Podrobno.uz. According to the National Committee on Statistics, the republic's consumer market showed moderate dynamics in February 2026. The inflation rate for the reporting month was 0.6%. The main factor influencing overall indicators was the seasonal change in prices for food products, particularly fruits and vegetables.
The most noticeable price increase was recorded in the vegetable category. The leaders in price hikes were tomatoes, which jumped by 12.1%, and pumpkins, which increased in cost by 11.7%. Potatoes also saw a significant rise, becoming 5% more expensive for consumers.
In addition to basic vegetables, inflation affected fruits and other popular items: bell peppers rose by 4.2%, apples by 4.1%, lemons by 3.6%, bananas by 3%, and carrots and cabbage by approximately 1.8%.
Despite the overall upward trend, deflation was observed for a number of products in February. The record holders for price reduction were cucumbers, which became cheaper by 13.8%. Citrus fruits also became more affordable for the population: tangerines fell in price by 5.6%, and oranges by 5.4%.
A slight decrease in prices was recorded in the root vegetable segment: beets became cheaper by 1.7%, and the cost of onions decreased by 0.9%. The stabilization of prices for these items helps partially balance household expenditures on the food basket.
It is recalled that earlier the National Committee on Statistics officially updated the structure of Uzbekistan's consumer basket, adapting inflation calculations to the realities of 2026. Against the backdrop of a slowdown in annual price growth to 7.2%, the monitoring methodology underwent a qualitative shift: "artifacts" of the past, such as landline phones, fur hats, and sewing supplies, were completely removed from the list of monitored goods. Their place was taken by services of the digital era—subscriptions to neural networks (AI), electric scooter rentals, and electric vehicle charging.
