A building collapsed during a planned demolition in Nairobi, Kenya's capital, killing at least four people and injuring four others. According to a statement from the country's interior ministry, the army and other institutions participated in rescue efforts to locate individuals trapped under the rubble, with at least two people being pulled out alive.

The ministry also stated that the building had been "earmarked for removal under the ongoing Nairobi River Regeneration Project." However, the exact cause of the incident remains unclear. Housing demand in Nairobi is high, and construction companies frequently violate building codes or bypass regulations, making building collapses relatively common in the Kenyan capital.

Kenya's National Construction Authority found that 58% of buildings in Nairobi are unfit for habitation. This assessment followed the collapse of eight buildings in 2015, which resulted in 15 deaths. The incident highlights ongoing issues with construction safety and regulatory oversight in Nairobi, pointing to systemic failures in enforcement and monitoring by local authorities.
