A man has been detained in the Jizzakh region of Uzbekistan on suspicion of attempting to sell a large batch of substandard medicines worth hundreds of millions of Uzbek som. According to investigative data, the suspect had pre-arranged to sell 14 types of drugs for 250 million som.
The operation was carried out by customs officials and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes. During a search of the suspect's vehicle, over 13,500 units of medicines without quality guarantees were discovered, with an estimated preliminary value of around 300 million som. The entire batch was seized in accordance with established procedures.
The detention occurred at the moment the agreed-upon sum was being handed over. A pre-investigation check is currently underway regarding this incident, with all circumstances of the case being established.
This incident follows recent detentions in the Bukhara region and Andijan of individuals engaged in illegal trade of potent medicines, highlighting ongoing challenges in the country's pharmaceutical market.
