Greek police have arrested an 89-year-old man following a double shooting that left five people injured in Athens.
The attacker first opened fire at a social security agency in the Kerameikos area on Tuesday, wounding an employee in the leg, according to police.
He then traveled to a courthouse about 5 km away in Ambelokipi, where four more people were reportedly injured, before fleeing the scene and leaving behind a shotgun.
Police arrested the man at a hotel near the bus station in the port city of Patras, some 200 km from the capital. He was carrying a second weapon, a loaded .38 caliber revolver.
Local media reported that the attacker entered the buildings in Athens with a shotgun concealed under his coat. State broadcaster ERT showed surveillance footage of the suspect calmly leaving the building on foot.
An eyewitness told state news agency AMNA: "I saw the whole thing... he was firing at the ground." The head of the judiciary employees' union in Athens, Stratis Dounias, said: "Four women working at the small claims court were slightly injured."
The suspect's niece contacted authorities after recognizing him, state broadcaster ERT reported. The five victims—one man and four women—sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Gun violence in Greece is relatively uncommon, as firearm ownership is allowed but heavily regulated. The motive for the shooting remains unclear.
