Ukrainian regional officials reported that Russian attacks across the country killed at least three people and wounded 17 on Wednesday, as US-led efforts to end the war remain largely on hold.
The head of Donetsk’s military administration, Vadym Filashkin, said at least two people were killed and four wounded in the region over the past 24 hours.
In a Telegram post, Filashkin stated that 19 Russian attacks on Donetsk damaged dozens of houses, apartment buildings, an infrastructure facility, and a minibus.
The Interfax news agency reported that fighting forced the evacuation of 867 people, including 34 children, from the front line in the past day.
In a separate drone attack, one woman was killed in the northeastern Sumy region near the border.
Sumy’s regional military chief, Oleh Hryhorov, said on Telegram that the strikes “deliberately aimed at residential buildings” caused large-scale fires, and a 60-year-old resident died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
In southern Odesa, overnight Russian attacks hit civilian infrastructure, including a hospital, damaging cardiology and surgery departments.
Regional official Oleh Kiper said on Telegram that the hospital and residential buildings suffered significant damage, and a fire broke out in a reserve area. Two people were wounded.
Al Jazeera’s Audrey Macalpine, reporting from Kyiv, said people were sheltering in the hospital basement during the attack.
In recent weeks, Ukraine has targeted oil refineries, depots, and ports inside Russia to blunt its war funding.
A Ukrainian drone struck an industrial facility in Perm Krai, 1,500 km into eastern Russia near the Ural Mountains, according to Governor Makhonin.
“Today, an enemy drone flew into an industrial site in the Perm Municipal District. Workers were evacuated. No injuries,” Makhonin wrote on Telegram.
The latest exchange comes as US-led peace efforts to end the war, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, have largely been paused.
