Two major wildfires have been reported in southern Florida, leading to a significant deterioration in air quality and reduced visibility in Broward and Miami-Dade counties. According to the Florida Forest Service, the largest blaze, dubbed the Max Road Fire, had already consumed over 5,000 acres of forest by Monday morning.

Smoke from this fire is spreading northward, threatening populated areas and forcing authorities to closely monitor the environmental situation.

A second active fire, covering approximately 210 acres, is burning in southern Miami-Dade County near Florida City. Over the weekend, heavy smoke forced authorities to temporarily close the strategically important Card Sound Road, which leads to the Florida Keys. Although traffic has been restored, drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution due to lingering smoke, which could shift toward the towns of Homestead and Leisure City.

The situation is compounded by Florida being in the peak of its dry season, which typically runs from October to May. Low humidity and lack of rainfall in recent weeks have significantly increased the risk of new fires across the state. Officials from meteorological services are urging residents to refrain from any outdoor open flames and to monitor updates on interactive wildfire maps until the situation fully stabilizes.
