Thousands gathered in central London on Saturday for two separate rallies under heavy police presence. One is the annual Nakba Day protest organized by pro-Palestinian groups, while the other is a far-right march called 'Unite the Kingdom' led by anti-Islam activist Tommy Robinson.
Meanwhile, Israel launched new airstrikes in southern Lebanon, targeting what it says are Hezbollah infrastructure sites. The US had announced a 45-day extension of the ceasefire between Israel and the Lebanese government, but the deal does not include the Iran-backed Hezbollah group.
Iranian state TV reported that European countries have begun negotiations with Tehran regarding the transit of ships through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has blocked the waterway since late February, demanding the US lift a naval blockade on Iranian ports.
London's Metropolitan Police said 11 people have been arrested for various offenses. Nakba Day marks the displacement of over 700,000 Palestinians in 1948 and has taken on renewed urgency amid the two-year Gaza war.
In Gaza, an Israeli airstrike killed the leader of Hamas' military wing, whom Israel described as one of the last surviving architects of the October 7, 2023 attacks.
