Bangladesh secured a historic home Test series victory over Pakistan, defeating the visitors by 78 runs in the second Test in Sylhet on Wednesday.

Spinner Taijul Islam was the hero, taking six wickets in the first session of the fifth day as Pakistan, chasing a record 437, were bowled out for 328. The visitors had resumed on 316-7.

Mohammad Rizwan fought valiantly with 94 off 166 balls, but lacked support. Taijul dismissed Sajid Khan (28) for his 18th five-wicket haul, and Shoriful Islam caught Rizwan in the next over to end Pakistan's resistance.

This is Bangladesh's first Test series win at home against Pakistan, following their 2-0 sweep on Pakistani soil in 2024. Bangladesh won the opening Test by 104 runs.

Bangladesh posted 278 in their first innings, with Litton Das scoring 126. In the second innings, Mushfiqur Rahim's 137, along with contributions from Mahmudul Hasan Joy (52) and Litton (69), set a target of 390.
