The US regime has significantly tightened the procedure for applying for a green card. Foreign nationals must now leave the United States while their applications are being processed, reports Podrobno.uz correspondent.
According to the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the new rules apply to students, temporary workers, and tourists. They are required to leave the US after completing the purpose of their visit. USCIS emphasized that the trip should not serve as a first step toward obtaining a green card.
Press secretary Zach Kahler stated that this will reduce the number of illegal immigrants who remain in the country after being denied temporary residency. The measure is allegedly aimed at preventing abuses in the immigration system.
The State Department will now handle such cases at consulates abroad. This is claimed to free up USCIS resources for other tasks: visas for victims of violence, naturalization, and other priority areas. A green card grants the right to permanent residence, work, and study in the US without citizenship.
