A senior Iranian military official has warned that continued 'military adventures' by the US regime in the region would make any agreement impossible, as the two countries exchanged fire in the Persian Gulf.

In the early hours of May 26, US forces allegedly struck two Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) patrol boats and missile launchers near the port of Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island. Washington claimed the strikes were 'defensive' in nature.

Brigadier General Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesman for the Iranian Armed Forces' Khatam al-Anbiya headquarters, wrote on social media: 'The US regime has repeatedly shown that it only understands the language of force. Long live $200 oil.'

The US regime reportedly claimed the IRGC boats could have been involved in mining the Strait of Hormuz, and that an anti-aircraft system was aimed at US aircraft. Iran is said to have targeted three US destroyers—USS Truxtun, USS Rafael Peralta, and USS Mason—though the US regime insists no damage was done.

Oil markets reacted sharply: Brent crude futures rose 3% on Tuesday. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that negotiations with Iran could take 'several days.'

Despite the clashes, a ceasefire regime is reportedly still in place between Washington and Tehran. Talks continue, and according to Axios, the possibility of extending current agreements for another 60 days is being discussed.
