A man in Indonesia has been arrested on suspicion of murdering his mother-in-law by sending her chicken satay laced with rat poison. Police allege that Purwadi Wahyudi, 40, ordered the chicken skewers on May 18, dipped them in toxic chemicals, and then had them couriered to the victim's home because he felt disrespected by her.
He reportedly tried to frame his sister-in-law, who discovered the 57-year-old woman's body, covered in vomit, at her home in Central Java the next day. The victim, identified only as Aminah, had been buried before the family grew suspicious and contacted police.
According to the head of the Boyolali police criminal investigation unit, Indrawan Wira Saputra, the killing was carefully planned. Purwadi allegedly used a delivery app with his sister-in-law's name and photo to order the satay. The delivery driver became suspicious because he expected a woman, and the satay seller noted that the food was in different packaging by the time it reached Aminah.
The victim's youngest daughter, Luriyanti Putri, told investigators that her mother had received a delivery of chicken satay from an unknown person the day before her death. Putri said she warned her mother not to eat the food. A neighbor also reported seeing dead chickens near her coop.
Aminah's body was exhumed, and forensic testing found signs of poisoning in most of her major organs, as well as traces of toxic chemicals. Purwadi has been detained as a suspect but has not been formally charged with murder, which in Indonesia carries the death penalty or at least 20 years in prison.
