The biggest mixed martial arts bout of 2026 will see Ilia Topuria face Justin Gaethje for the undisputed UFC Lightweight Championship on June 14 in Washington, DC, at an outdoor event on the White House lawns.
The UFC Freedom 250 event is expected to be attended by US President Donald Trump, who turns 80 that day, along with celebrities such as Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Adam Sandler, Jason Statham, and Tom Brady, though the final guest list remains unclear.
Topuria, undefeated with a 17-0 record, vacated his lightweight title in late 2025 citing personal reasons and 'attempted extortion.' Despite being the challenger, he is favored over interim champion Gaethje.
Topuria's last fight was a first-round knockout of Charles Oliveira at UFC 317 on June 28, 2025. He is ranked No. 2 pound-for-pound by ESPN. Gaethje last fought on January 24, winning the interim title by unanimous decision over Paddy Pimblett.
The co-main event features Alex Pereira vs Ciryl Gane for the Interim Heavyweight title. Pereira aims to become the first three-weight UFC champion, while Gane is a former interim heavyweight champion.
Both fighters have exchanged verbal jabs. Topuria stated he sees 'almost zero possibilities' for Gaethje, while Gaethje called Topuria a 'gimmick' and vowed to move forward aggressively.
The event is part of the Freedom 250 celebrations, which have faced controversy after several musicians withdrew citing political affiliations and confusion with the America250 events.
