US President Donald Trump issued a stark warning to Iran at the G7 summit, stating that the United States would “start the process again” if Tehran fails to agree to a nuclear deal. The remarks came amid ongoing negotiations to finalize a memorandum of understanding.
Trump also addressed US cooperation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, describing him as “a good man, but he gets a little excited sometimes.” He acknowledged a “little dispute” over Israeli strikes in Lebanon, suggesting a more restrained approach.
“When two drones are shot into the desert and harm nobody you don’t have to shut down buildings,” Trump said, criticizing the scale of Israeli retaliation. He expressed hope that more countries, including Saudi Arabia, would join the Abraham Accords.
The US leader claimed the deal would prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, averting a “nuclear Holocaust.” He confirmed that technical discussions on removing uranium stockpiles would begin immediately, with Gulf states participating.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stressed that Lebanon’s negotiations with Israel are independent and not linked to the US-Iran deal. “Nobody is tying us to any other country, and any settlement will be through us, not at our expense,” he said.
The signing ceremony is scheduled for Friday in Switzerland. If the agreement proceeds, the Strait of Hormuz, a vital oil shipping route, is expected to reopen, potentially easing global energy prices that have spiked due to the conflict.
