A new earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9 has been detected off the northern coast of Venezuela, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). The tremor on Friday comes days after two powerful quakes devastated the country on Wednesday evening, killing at least 920 people.

The epicenter was located 61 kilometers (36 miles) northwest of Maracay in northern Venezuela. Reuters reported that tremors were felt in Maracay and the capital Caracas, citing local witnesses.

Wednesday's earthquakes, registering magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, have left at least 3,360 people injured, with 172 still trapped under rubble. The Venezuelan government reports over 50,000 missing. The U.S. Geological Survey estimates the death toll could exceed 10,000.

Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello announced restricted access to the hardest-hit areas in La Guaira state. Meanwhile, the government has eased restrictions on social media platforms like X, allowing communities to share information about missing loved ones.

Residents are organizing relief efforts and search operations, with some using personal vehicles as makeshift ambulances. Jennifer Palacios, 25, whose six-year-old son and five relatives are buried under rubble, pleaded: "We need cranes to move the slabs. There are still people trapped."
