Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi announced the establishment of a "communication channel" with the United States to report violations of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed two weeks ago. The announcement followed indirect technical talks between the two sides in Qatar on Wednesday.

Gharibabadi also stated that part of the $6 billion in frozen Iranian assets would be used to purchase goods needed by Tehran. US President Donald Trump had previously said the funds would only be used to buy American products.

Mediators from Qatar and Pakistan held separate meetings in Doha, reporting "positive progress" in discussions tied to the MoU. The next meeting is to be scheduled after the funeral of the former Iranian Supreme Leader.

The indirect talks focused on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and securing the ceasefire amid breaches since the MoU was signed last month. The MoU includes a 60-day ceasefire, reopening of the strait, and a timeline for a final deal on Iran's nuclear program.

Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani met US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, reaffirming mediation efforts. Trump hailed the talks as "very good meetings."
