President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev sent condolences to Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on the death of his father, former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
According to presidential press secretary Sherzod Asadov, the head of state expressed condolences to the Emir of Qatar, his family members and all loved ones, as well as to the entire Qatari people.
“The bright memory and indelible name of His Highness Sheikh Hamad Al Thani, who made a worthy contribution to raising friendly relations and cooperation between Uzbekistan and Qatar to a new level, will forever remain in our hearts,” the message reads.
Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani died on July 12 at the age of 74. He ruled Qatar from 1995 to 2013. In June 2013, he handed over the throne to his son, the current Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani is considered the architect of modern Qatar. During his rule, the country adopted its first permanent constitution, and women gained the right to vote and run for office in municipal elections.
