The Israeli military has carried out an airstrike on a police post belonging to Hamas-run police in Gaza, killing at least seven people, including a senior officer, according to health and police officials. Witnesses reported that an Israeli drone fired four missiles at the post near a busy market in the Jabalia area of northern Gaza.

The Hamas-run interior ministry identified the dead as including the head of the local police station, Colonel Mohammed Marwan Salem, and several other officers, condemning the attack as a "massacre." An Israeli military official confirmed the strike, claiming it targeted "terrorists."

Two additional fatalities were reported from Israeli fire in southern Gaza on Tuesday, including a 10-year-old boy in Rafah and a man in Khan Younis. The Israeli military said it struck a Hamas operative in the latter case but has not commented on the boy's death.

Both Israel and Hamas have accused each other of near-daily violations of the ceasefire that took effect in October. Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry says at least 1,110 people have been killed by Israeli fire since then, while Israel reports four soldiers killed in Palestinian attacks.

The war was triggered by the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which killed about 1,200 people and saw 251 taken hostage. Israel's subsequent military campaign in Gaza has killed more than 73,230 people, according to the territory's health ministry.
