The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it carried out another series of airstrikes on Iran overnight on July 17. The strikes targeted dozens of military sites, including coastal surveillance and air defense systems, military logistics infrastructure, and naval facilities.

According to the Associated Press, citing Iranian state media, road and railway bridges in the southern Hormozgan province were hit. Iranian officials reported at least seven fatalities. The agency noted that the attack likely aimed to cut off the port of Bandar Abbas from central Iran, including Tehran.

The strikes also destroyed a surveillance tower at the port of Chabahar on the Gulf of Oman, which was used to monitor commercial shipping.

In response, Iran launched missile strikes on US military facilities in Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain, CNN reported.

On July 14, the US reinstated a naval blockade of Iranian ports. US President Donald Trump again threatened to strike Iranian power plants and bridges if Tehran does not resume negotiations with Washington.

In June, the US and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the war and lifting the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. The sides continued limited exchanges of strikes, but in early July they resumed active mutual attacks. Trump then declared that the ceasefire with Iran was “over”.
