FIFA generated a record $15 billion in revenue from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, surpassing the initial forecast of $11 billion by $4 billion, according to The Guardian.

The record revenue was driven by sales of hospitality packages and aggressive monetization of the secondary ticket market. FIFA charged a 15% commission to both buyers and sellers on ticket resales through its official platform.

High demand was reflected in prices for the final match between Spain and Argentina in New Jersey. VIP tickets in the Trophy Lounge category cost up to $34,500 per person on FIFA's official website.

Part of the record revenue is planned to be distributed among national football associations, though the distribution mechanism is still under discussion.

The Guardian suggests that additional payments could ease tensions following FIFA's decision to replace the suspension of US striker Folarin Balogun with a probationary period before the Round of 16 match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Several European football associations criticized the decision, alleging political influence.

The commercial success of the World Cup has strengthened the US bid to host the 2038 tournament. Negotiations are also underway to host the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup in the country.

Spain won the 2026 World Cup, defeating Argentina in the final. Argentina failed to register a single shot on target during regular time.
