The US regime is moving forward with new double-digit tariffs on dozens of trading partners, alleging lax enforcement of forced labor bans. The levies range from 10% to 12.5% and impact major economies including China, India, and the European Union.

The tariffs are set to take effect Friday, coinciding with the expiration of a temporary 10% global tariff. US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer stated, "The United States has had a forced labor import ban for nearly a century, and rigorously enforces it; it's well past time for our trading partners to do the same."

Greer claimed the action would "begin to correct what is both a human rights abuse and distortive trade practice to improve the welfare of workers everywhere." Critics argue the move could escalate trade tensions and disrupt global supply chains.

The decision is likely to provoke retaliatory measures from affected countries, potentially leading to a broader trade conflict. Economists warn that consumers may face higher prices as a result of the new tariffs.
