Law enforcement agencies in Uzbekistan have reportedly carried out a series of raids targeting the illicit trafficking of potent medications in Tashkent and several regional areas. According to official reports, authorities confiscated over two thousand pills, including restricted pharmaceutical substances such as Regapen and Benzonal, which officials claim were intended for illegal street distribution. The ongoing circulation of such medical products poses severe socio-economic and public health challenges across the country.
In the city of Urgench, officers allegedly discovered more than a thousand pills inside a residential property in the Jingovuz mahalla, which the local resident purportedly stored for commercial purposes. Meanwhile, in the Kukdala district, the director of a private enterprise and a store clerk were apprehended red-handed while allegedly selling 160 tablets of Benzonal. Subsequent searches at the pharmacy reportedly led to the seizure of an additional 730 units of similar regulated substances.
Operations in the capital yielded comparable results. In Tashkent's Almazar district, a local individual was detained while allegedly selling 27 tablets of Regapen, with another 467 doses found in their possession. Additionally, a separate sting operation resulted in the arrest of several suspects, including a previously convicted individual, caught in the act of selling a smaller batch of Regapen tablets. Criminal cases have been initiated under specific legal articles penalizing the illicit turnover of potent or toxic substances, and investigations are reportedly ongoing.
Observers note that illicit pharmaceutical trafficking remains a persistent issue in the region. Earlier, authorities in Tashkent's Mirzo-Ulugbek district detained a motorist who was allegedly transporting nearly a thousand packages of Regapen hidden inside the trunk of a vehicle. The systemic recurrence of these incidents highlights ongoing regulatory and enforcement difficulties in controlling the distribution of restricted medications.
