A total of 1,116,000 citizens have reportedly returned to Uzbekistan from labor migration since the beginning of the year. The figures were disclosed during a specialized government meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, focusing on migration management and employment issues.
The returning workforce includes individuals with professional experience gained in countries such as Germany, the United Kingdom, South Korea, Japan, and Russia. These citizens were predominantly employed in industries including construction, logistics, services, and agriculture. Authorities claim that specialists who have familiarized themselves with modern technologies and international labor standards could potentially benefit domestic enterprises.
To facilitate the reintegration and employment of these returnees, authorities plan to introduce a dedicated information platform. This digital database will store comprehensive data regarding individuals' previous workplaces, acquired professions, and overseas work tenure. Officials assert this tool will assist regional governors and industry heads in matching vacancies with the actual qualifications of returning workers.
A specific target has been established to secure suitable employment for 250,000 returning migrants by the end of 2026. Furthermore, individuals wishing to establish their own businesses are purportedly promised consultative assistance and favorable operational conditions. However, independent observers note that official statements omit precise metrics regarding how many of the 1.11 million returnees have secured stable, formal employment versus those still searching for jobs.
