FIFA President Gianni Infantino has launched a fierce defense of the World Cup, accusing critics of being "consumed by hate and criticism" and missing the joy of the tournament. In a lengthy Instagram post, he dismissed corruption allegations and praised the event's success.

The Swiss executive, not known for apologizing, said "sorry" three times in his 15-slide post, addressing those who "missed our beautiful game, the emotions, the celebrations, the laughter, the crying, the deception, and the joy."

Infantino claimed the World Cup was marked by "no violence, no incidents, 100% safety and security, only joy and happiness!" His communication style drew comparisons to former US President Donald Trump.

He acknowledged travel issues for the Iranian team, which was forced to stay in Mexico and faced last-minute restrictions, but framed it as an effort to "unite two countries at war." Iran's head coach Amir Ghalenoei called his team the "most oppressed" at the tournament.

Travel bans and visa denials plagued the event, with Trump's restrictions affecting fans from Haiti, Senegal, Iran, and Ivory Coast. Somali referee Omar Artan was denied entry despite holding a diplomatic passport and valid visa.

Infantino dismissed these issues, saying critics "mentioned the few people denied visas and overlooked the millions who were approved." He urged focus on FIFA's achievements.

Infantino's close ties with Trump drew scrutiny. After awarding Trump the FIFA Peace Prize, Trump admitted lobbying Infantino to overturn a red card for US striker Folarin Balogun, a move that violated FIFA's own rules.

UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin boycotted the final in protest. Trump recommended Infantino for UN Secretary-General, but Infantino is expected to remain at FIFA and seek re-election unopposed.
