On August 26, catastrophic floods and landslides struck the border region between Nepal and Tibet. The death toll from the natural disaster is approaching 500, and rescue teams are bracing for another possible onslaught.

Diplomatic missions from various countries are searching for their citizens. Kazakhstan is looking for two female citizens who were in the disaster zone. The Russian Embassy in Nepal reported that eight Russian citizens may have been in the affected area and have not yet made contact. However, two Russian women who survived the flooding at a border checkpoint with China were successfully evacuated.

More than 5,000 military personnel and police officers are involved in the search and rescue operation. The rescue efforts are complicated by the ongoing threat of new mudflows and expected rainfall. Among the missing are pilgrims heading to Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar, sacred to Hindus and Buddhists.

According to the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Delhi, which is also accredited to Nepal, no reports have been received so far of Uzbek citizens among the dead or injured as a result of the disaster. Diplomats remain in contact with relevant authorities and continue to monitor the situation.
