Afghanistan's armed forces announced the downing of a Pakistani fighter jet. The pilot survived and was taken prisoner.

According to TOLO News, the aircraft was shot down in Afghanistan's Nangarhar province, near Jalalabad.

Wahidullah Mohammadi, a spokesperson for the "Khalid ibn Walid" corps military command, confirmed the pilot's capture.

Nangarhar command representatives declined to provide details of the incident, stating only that the aircraft belonged to the Pakistani Air Force.

This incident occurs amid active hostilities between Afghanistan and Pakistan: yesterday, Pakistani military aircraft struck Afghanistan's capital Kabul, as well as Kandahar and Paktia provinces. Islamabad described the attack as a response to shelling of Pakistani border positions the previous day.

Uzbekistan expressed deep concern over the sharp escalation. Official Tashkent calls on the parties to immediately cease fire, exercise maximum restraint, and prevent further escalation that could have catastrophic consequences for the entire region.
