Matt Donohue, the VAR who allowed Erling Haaland's winner in Manchester City's 1-0 victory over Manchester United, has not been selected for any Premier League fixtures next weekend. Assistant VAR Blake Antrobus has also been left without an assignment after Pro Ref admitted in a statement that VAR was wrong to allow the goal.

The decision was made by chief refereeing officer Howard Webb and the management team. Neither official is expected to return to duty until at least after the international break. Haaland's second-half strike was initially ruled out for offside but was awarded after a VAR review deemed the Norwegian onside.

However, the refereeing body later said VAR failed to consider the impact of teammate Enzo Fernandez, who attempted to play the ball from an offside position. United, now 13th in the top flight, next play Brighton in the League Cup on Wednesday, followed by a Premier League trip to Fulham on Sunday.

City host Norwich City in the cup on Thursday before welcoming Sunderland on Sunday in the league, where they are level on points with leaders and defending champions Arsenal.
