Newcastle's night started poorly when Nico Gonzalez was forced off with a concussion inside the first 20 minutes, leaving 18-year-old Sean Steur and 20-year-old Lewis Miley in the heart of midfield. Miley inadvertently turned Ao Tanaka's deflected strike into his own net to open the floodgates. Two minutes later, Calvert-Lewin's header flicked off Bogle and into the bottom corner, credited to the right-back. Calvert-Lewin then bulldozed past Sven Botman to score for the fifth consecutive league game at Elland Road, making it 3-0.

Despite the off-season upheaval of losing manager Eddie Howe and key players Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes, and Sandro Tonali, Newcastle had made a positive start under Jaissle. However, the club's strategy of targeting rising stars to fill the void was outmatched by a more experienced Leeds side. "It was clear from the start and I said that many times that we will have ups and downs, challenges along the way," Jaissle said. "We faced that challenge and it's tough, it's really tough."

Leeds boss Daniel Farke praised his team: "Perfect start right now with eight points, terrific performance. Energy, quality and good structure in and without possession." His side now sits behind only defending champions Arsenal and Manchester City. Okafor made it 4-0 before the hour mark, volleying in from the edge of the box after Newcastle failed to clear a long throw.

Bazoumana Toure netted a consolation in stoppage time, but the damage was long done. Newcastle remain on five points and slip to 12th due to their negative goal difference, while Leeds continue their impressive start to the campaign.
