A 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by three men posing as police officers in an upscale Delhi neighborhood on Monday evening, authorities said Tuesday. The incident comes amid nationwide outrage over a viral video from Bihar showing a group of men molesting a minor girl and assaulting her male companion. Delhi police have launched an investigation and are searching for the accused.

According to reports, the girl had visited a temple in southeast Delhi with a male friend, and they later went to a nearby park. There, three men intercepted them, claiming to be police officers. One held the friend down while the others raped the girl. The men allegedly threatened the duo with arrest if they reported the assault. The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. local time.

Police reached the spot after receiving a call and took the girl for a medical examination. A formal investigation has been launched under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and Indian criminal law. When attempting to arrest one of the accused, he fired three shots at the police; one bullet struck an officer's bulletproof vest. The accused was shot in his right leg before being arrested, according to the Press Trust of India.

The Delhi gang-rape follows a viral video from Bihar showing about seven men molesting a minor girl while assaulting her male companion. The video has enraged netizens and political leaders. According to the National Annual Report and Index on Women's Safety 2025, Delhi remains one of the least safe cities for women in India.
