Iran's state television confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as a result of strikes by the United States and Israel. In a statement broadcast on Sunday morning, the television company said, "The Supreme Leader of Iran has been martyred."

According to the Fars agency, Khamenei died at his workplace.

The state agency IRNA reported that a 40-day mourning period has been declared in the country, with authorities also setting seven days of national holidays.

U.S. President Donald Trump had earlier announced the death of the Iranian leader. The information was also confirmed by Iranian agencies Tasnim, ISNA, and Mehr.

Previously, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated there were "multiple signs" indicating Khamenei's death, noting that the Supreme Leader's residence was targeted and destroyed.
