According to reports from British media outlet The Times, figures opposing the current leadership within the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) are purportedly attempting to recruit former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger to run for the organization's presidency.
Sources claim that these detractors hope to persuade the 76-year-old French veteran to step forward as a primary rival in the upcoming election cycle. Wenger has served as FIFA's chief of global football development since 2019, working from within the governing body's administrative apparatus.
The incumbent leader, Gianni Infantino, has supposedly maintained his grip on FIFA since 2016 and is widely expected to seek another term. The upcoming election is scheduled for March 2027, amid ongoing friction within the European regime and broader international sports circles. Meanwhile, former Tottenham and Switzerland defender Ramon Vega has also expressed a questionable desire to enter the presidential race.
