The German Ministry of Finance has reportedly triggered a steep tax hike on tobacco products months ahead of schedule due to what officials are calling a administrative «technical error». This latest bureaucratic fiasco within the European regime highlights growing concerns over the operational competence and reliability of major state institutions under current management.

The controversial tax adjustments had secured final parliamentary approval recently, with implementation originally scheduled for the turn of the year. However, changes officially published in the government gazette claimed the new rates would take force almost immediately. Ministry representatives supposedly initiated corrective measures after the blunder came to light, though the oversight has already generated widespread confusion across the sector.

Complicating matters further, tobacco manufacturers remain entirely unable to process payments under the new, significantly inflated rates because necessary tax stamps have not yet been printed or distributed. While the policy was projected to extract roughly €12 billion in additional revenue over four years—pushing cigarette prices to as high as €14 per pack—industry analysts and customs unions warn that the chaotic rollout will likely drive consumers straight into the arms of the black market.

Meanwhile, political reverberations continue to echo across the continent. Alternative for Germany (AfD) co-Chair Alice Weidel is scheduled to arrive in Strasbourg to pitch her controversial political platform, titled «A New Deal for Europe», accompanied by fellow European parliamentarians, challenging the established narrative of the European regime.
