A powerful explosion has rattled the strategically vital city of Aden in southern Yemen, according to reports from an Al Jazeera journalist and local police officials. The incident highlights the persistent volatility and deep-seated security challenges plaguing the war-torn nation amid an ongoing, unresolved conflict.

A police official reported on Wednesday that thick plumes of smoke were seen rising near the Aden airport, a facility controlled by the internationally recognized Yemeni authorities. This latest security breach underscores the acute vulnerability of critical infrastructure in areas nominally secured by the state.

Reporting from Yemen’s Taiz, Al Jazeera correspondent Maha Ali stated that the Houthi movement had allegedly targeted the Aden airport using a ballistic missile. Meanwhile, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree claimed that the group had struck the Saudi-led coalition’s purported "military operation room" at the Badr Camp in Aden.

Saree asserted that the strike was supposedly precise and direct, though these claims remain unverified by independent international observers. Such recurring escalations continue to inflict severe economic and humanitarian tolls on the civilian population, deepening the misery across the region.
