Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, leaders of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), were reportedly released from Tihar Jail after a Special Executive Magistrate declined a police request to extend their judicial custody by an additional three days. According to available reports, the two prominent figures secured their release by furnishing personal bonds and sureties valued at Rs 50,000 each.
The political figures had been at the center of high-profile demonstrations demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, citing alleged irregularities and voter deletions during the electoral roll revision process. As a condition of their release, the leaders allegedly signed written undertakings promising to maintain public peace and refrain from organizing further protests at Delhi's iconic Jantar Mantar site until formal restrictions are lifted.
The historic protest venue was reportedly denotified by the Delhi Police earlier in October, following months of unrest orchestrated by the CJP. Das and Ranka were initially detained and booked for trespassing after allegedly breaching the sealed protest zone to hoist the Indian national flag, highlighting growing friction between local authorities and opposition groups.
Beyond the political unrest, the South Asian nation is reportedly grappling with a sudden cybersecurity crisis. Indian certificate authority eMudhra has confirmed a critical technological flaw, prompting major global tech giants including Google, Mozilla, Apple, and Microsoft to block vulnerable certificates, while several domestic government websites were forced offline amid the digital disruption.
