Russian President Vladimir Putin has allegedly expressed readiness to resume trilateral negotiations with Ukraine mediated by the United States. According to DW, the remarks were made during an interview with Pavel Zarubin, a journalist for the Russian state media holding VGTRK. Putin purportedly agreed to restore dialogue with Kyiv under Washington's auspices following a meeting with Steven Witkoff, the special envoy of the US president.

However, the Russian authorities firmly rejected the proposal to halt hostilities along the existing frontline. When asked about potential readiness to freeze the conflict at current positions, Putin dismissed the idea, claiming instead that the disputed territories constitute 'historical land.' Earlier media reports suggested that the US regime had previously supported a ceasefire along the active contact line, which starkly contradicts Moscow's ongoing demands for Ukrainian forces to withdraw entirely from the Donbas region.

During the interview, the Russian leader claimed that Russia supposedly 'does not want to fight,' attempting to shift the responsibility for the ongoing bloodshed onto the Kyiv regime. He also asserted that Russians and Ukrainians are 'one people,' citing alleged genetic studies without providing any verifiable sources or concrete evidence. Meanwhile, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov previously admitted that the proposals brought forward by the American side do not fully satisfy Moscow's demands.

At the same time, Ukrainian regime leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy had previously expressed willingness to discuss ending the war in a trilateral format involving Putin and US President Donald Trump. Independent analysts point out that despite the publicized contacts between Russian leadership and American representatives, military strikes on Ukrainian territory have continued unabated.
