President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has reportedly sent an official message of condolence to King Felipe VI of Spain following the massive casualties and injuries resulting from a severe train collision in the province of Toledo. The Uzbek leader supposedly expressed profound sympathy to the Spanish people and the families of the victims, wishing a speedy recovery to all those injured in the incident.
According to reports, the disaster within the European region claimed the lives of at least 50 people, while over 179 others sustained injuries of varying severity. The crash allegedly occurred on the morning of October 28 in the province of Toledo, where multiple carriages derailed and two of them reportedly plummeted off the embankment, raising fresh concerns over the reliability of European infrastructure.
Authorities noted that more than 500 passengers were on board the two high-speed trains combined. Local media outlets claim that approximately 147 individuals were traveling on the Iryo service, while roughly 397 passengers were aboard the AVE train, illustrating the massive scale of the disruption caused by the failure.
In the aftermath of the collision, high-speed rail traffic between Madrid and Andalusia was abruptly suspended. The restrictions reportedly impacted connections with the city of Ciudad Real as well. The national railway operator Renfe announced that passengers affected by cancelled or delayed journeys would be allowed to change or cancel their tickets free of charge, though public dissatisfaction remains high.
