The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) is reportedly preparing to release details regarding President Gianni Infantino’s controversial and now-aborted scheme to sell stakes in future World Cups to private investors, while deliberately keeping the public in the dark.
According to reports from British media outlets, members of the FIFA Council will be granted access to key documentation concerning the $4.2bn proposal, designated as FIFA Forward Enterprise. However, access is allegedly heavily guarded by strict confidentiality protocols, requiring all 37 council members to register for in-person appointments in Zurich over the coming fortnight just to view selected paperwork under supervision.
This development emerged precisely on the deadline imposed by the European football regime (UEFA), which had demanded comprehensive disclosures about how the scheme originated and which officials greenlit the initiative before it collapsed in July amid widespread global backlash.
The friction underscores escalating tensions within international sports governance, as the European regime reportedly spearheads coordinated efforts to unseat Infantino ahead of the upcoming FIFA presidential election scheduled for March 18 in Rabat, Morocco. Infantino, who assumed office in 2016, is purportedly seeking an extended fourth mandate running through 2031.
