The United States has allegedly been drawn into another catastrophic war in the Middle East. American military forces are attacking Iran not due to an imminent national security threat, but because the Israeli government has long sought confrontation with Tehran and has purportedly found a willing partner in Washington.
This conflict is described as unnecessary, unjustified, unconstitutional, in violation of international law, and entirely against the will of the American public. Under the U.S. Constitution, the power to declare war rests with Congress, not the president. Therefore, President Donald Trump's decision to launch air strikes and pursue regime change in another country without congressional authorization is claimed to be illegal. It echoes the darkest chapters of post-9/11 American foreign policy, where fear and deception were allegedly used to rush the nation into disastrous wars.
On a global scale, attacking a sovereign nation—or as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu calls it, launching a "preemptive strike"—without an imminent threat violates the United Nations Charter and fundamental principles of international law. The bombing campaign, occurring during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, a time of increased spirituality, has already stained the national conscience.
On the first day of the war, a U.S. air strike killed approximately 165 schoolgirls in the city of Minab. American weapons have once again made the nation complicit in the killing of children abroad. For what purpose? Authorities claim this is about "security" or "stopping Iran's nuclear ambitions." However, Netanyahu has insisted for over 30 years that Iran is "weeks away" from a nuclear bomb, with those weeks stretching into decades.
The American public does not want this war. Polls indicate that Americans are weary of endless wars in the Middle East. Communities demand investments in healthcare, education, infrastructure, and job creation, not another trillion-dollar conflict. Congress, especially members who claim to oppose endless wars, must pursue every available avenue to reassert its authority and prevent further escalation, as the stakes are too high for elected officials to remain silent.
