On July 5, Kyrgyz security forces conducted a special operation at the Kadamzhai-Avtoyul and Chechme-Avtoyul checkpoints in the Batken region. Both checkpoints are located on the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border.
According to 24 kg, around 7:00 PM, officers of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) for Batken region, together with Alpha special forces, detained employees of the Border Service, Customs, and Veterinary Service. They are suspected of involvement in corruption.
During the entry of security forces into the Kadamzhai-Avtoyul checkpoint, a warrant officer stationed at the barrier fired four shots, and his colleague fired a warning shot into the air. The circumstances of the use of weapons are being investigated.
During searches, 38,500 Kyrgyz soms, 5,484,000 Uzbek soms, and 200,000 soms from the glove compartment of a service vehicle were seized from Border Service employees. The driver stated the money was intended for purchasing covers for the service vehicle. From customs officers, 100,000 soms and US dollars were seized; the exact amount is being determined.
At the Chechme-Avtoyul checkpoint, according to sources, two employees were caught on surveillance cameras illegally receiving money.
27 servicemen were brought to the SCNS office in Batken region: 16 from Kadamzhai-Avtoyul and 11 from Chechme-Avtoyul. Two AK-74 assault rifles, two magazines, and 60 rounds of ammunition were confiscated from the detainees.
During the investigation, the operation of both checkpoints was suspended, resulting in a queue of about 3,000 people and 400 vehicles. Later, traffic through Kadamzhai-Avtoyul was restored.
The State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan has not officially commented on the special operation.
