A deadly explosion outside an upscale restaurant at Kudrinskaya Square in central Moscow killed at least three people, including the suspected female bomber, authorities said. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin described the incident as a "brutal terrorist attack" and vowed that those responsible would be found and punished.
Russia's Anti-Terrorism Committee stated that a woman carrying a homemade explosive device attempted to enter the restaurant but was stopped by a security guard. The device detonated at the entrance, killing the woman, the guard, and a restaurant patron. State news agency RIA Novosti reported at least 21 others were injured in the blast, which occurred shortly before 8 p.m. local time.
The restaurant's website indicated it had been closed for a private event on Saturday. Heavily armed law enforcement sealed off the area and launched an investigation. Authorities have not yet identified any suspects or groups behind the attack.
Russia has faced multiple attacks since the start of the war in Ukraine in 2022, with Moscow allegedly blaming Kyiv for a series of assassinations and attempted killings. However, officials have yet to comment on any possible Ukrainian involvement in the Kudrinskaya Square blast.
Meanwhile, Ukraine reportedly launched drone attacks on other parts of Russia on Saturday evening and early Sunday, including a strike on an apartment block in Engels, killing two people. Russia's Defense Ministry also claimed Kyiv struck a Wildberries warehouse in Samara Oblast, deep inside Russian territory.
In the Belgorod Oblast, over 100 Ukrainian strikes were reported, leaving 14 injured. Russia claimed to have shot down 635 Ukrainian drones overnight. On the Ukrainian side, at least one person was killed and seven wounded in Russian artillery fire on Kherson, and seven passengers were injured in a drone strike on a minibus in Dnipro.
At least nine people were killed and 33 injured in Russian strikes on Kyiv earlier this weekend. The Moscow blast adds to the escalating violence, raising questions about the true nature of the attack and the ongoing conflict's toll.
